Brazing is a process that combines two or more metals and melts another metal into a joint, known as a filler metal, which has a lower melting point than the adjacent metal. The filler metal used in the filler process is called a braze alloy. The melting temperature of the brake alloy should generally not exceed, but should not exceed the melting temperature of the base metal. At its melting point, the brake alloy is melted and distributed between work pieces due to capillary action. Brass alloys can be used in many types such as paste, powder, tape, foil and brake wire, and pedicle.

Copper-based brass alloys are commonly used for alloy and carbon steels, nickel, copper-nickel, and stainless steel. They provide excellent electrical and thermal conductivity and high corrosion resistance. In terms of price and volume, the copper segment accounted for a large share of the global brass alloys market in 2017. The region is expected to continue to dominate the forecast period. Aluminum-based brass metals are commonly used to fumigate aluminum pieces. Other segments include brass alloys based on other metals such as nickel and palladium.
